My little one has the flu. It has been pathetic. Her fever has gone up and down. With every fever spike, there have been tears. She cries for us and we go to her. We check her temperature and comfort where we can. Her biggest request has been our presence.
When we draw near, she rests. Miraculously, her fever goes down and her eyes close. Her breathing becomes steady and calm.
Then life happens and I am required to move away. Immediately, she knows I am gone. She can feel it, her eyes open, and her fever starts creeping up again.
So I sit. I hold her hand and I watch her eye lids slowly close as she rests with me next to her. She is able to endure when she knows she is not fighting alone.
This reminds me of my Heavenly Father’s love for me. When crisis or sickness come, I draw strength from His presence and His tender care for me. I want instant healing and a quick fix, but that isn’t how most trials end for me.
It is through the fiery trials of life, loss, sickness, and betrayal that I feel God’s presence more clearly. He gives me rest from my enemies and strength to stand strong when life is overwhelming. For all of us, there will be times when life becomes unbearable because we were not meant to walk through difficult times alone. Jesus gives us strength to persevere and overcome adversity.
Many are suffering. Many are walking through fiery trials. So often, the only thing I can offer is my presence, a listening ear, and a confirmation of their value; their value to me and their value to a Savior who laid it all down for them.
Today, I worship the One who laid down his life to rescue me. The nails did not hold Him to the cross, love did.
I am a girl passionately in love with Jesus, my husband, and my children. I am forever learning how to live a life completely undone for my God. This blog is about my journey and a few funny stories in between.
